COURSE OBJECTIVES AND LENGTH
The Electrical Motors class builds on the knowledge the student has gained in the Electrician program at WCPC or while working within the Electrician or related working field. The focus of study is an understanding of electrical circuits and safety, electrical motor control fundamentals, Variable Frequency Drives (VFD), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), motor selection and maintenance, testing, maintenance and troubleshooting, electrical codes and standards and industrial motor control applications. Study elements include classroom theory, hands on practical training applications and a capstone project including control circuit design, installation and troubleshooting.
The program consists of 150 total clock hours which are utilized within classroom training and practical hands-on training within WCPC laboratory (lab) space.
PREREQUISITE
*This program requires a prerequisite of completion of the WCPC electrician program or approval from WCPC administration based on the individual’s field working experience.
